An expedited passport can be a lifesaver if you are pressed for time and need to travel abroad. To avoid the need for expedited service, check the validity of your family’s passports regularly so that you’ll be ready if a last-minute trip is needed. However, in an emergency or last-minute scenario, you have several options for receiving a passport. It can be stressful when you find out you need an expedited passport, but you have options.

Where to Get an Expedited U.S. Passport Service?

Passport expediting service is a legitimate service being provided by the post offices, regional passport agencies, and private expediting companies. If you are traveling within 14 days these services would be able to obtain to passport in an as quick as same day in some cases.

The Expedited Options

Regional Passport AgencySame DayThe Regional Passport Agency is the go-to place to get your passport expedited free of change this is the recommended method for getting a passport if you are traveling in two weeks or less. (Recommended)
Private Passport Expediting CompaniesSame DayPrivate expediting companies also would be able to expedite your passport in two weeks or less but these companies charge a service fee plus the regular governments fees. This service should be used only if you cannot go to the passport agency yourself.

Example of How Expedited Passport Process Works

There is three option when expediting your passport application which is the post offices, regional passport agencies, and private passport and visa companies. These three services process your passport different and we would explain how does it work.

Post Offices:

The post offices do not process your passport application on the spot it is sent out to a lockbox to be processed. Once the application processes the application is sent back to the customer by registered mail. If there are any issues with the application it would take further time as the customer would be notified via certified mail to provide additional documents etc

Regional Passport Agencies

The passport agencies are located in a number of states throughout the United States this government agency are able to process your passport application on the spot with valid travel plans.  This is the RECOMMENDED service to get your passport if traveling in a rush.

Passport Expediting Companies

Passport expeditors are assigned passport slots with some passport agencies. Once you submit your passport application to these companies they will hand deliver it to the regional passport agencies for the process. Once your application is been approve or denied these company would then relay the message back to the customer.

A passport with expedited service may be requested in person or by mail. Anyone can obtain an expedited passport, as long they can show proof of the need for an emergency passport. The cost for an expedited passport is an additional $60 plus delivery costs. You’ll receive your expedited passport in approximately three weeks; however, you can receive it sooner than this if an urgency of need can be clearly shown.

An expedited first-time passport or replacement of a lost/stolen passport is best acquired using an in-person facility. Sending Expedited Documents

Some of them operate within passport agencies and can submit an expedited passport application for you on your behalf. Make sure to verify that the expediter you choose can meet your deadline and that you are comfortable with what they will charge you.

How Should I Send my Expedited Documents?

  • Use a secure package such as a Tyvek envelope so the contents of the mailing are protected from wear and the elements while traveling through the postal or delivery system.
  • Use a trackable delivery method when sending your passport application and personal documents.
  • For mailed expedited renewals, submit Form DS-82 and write “EXPEDITE” clearly in block letters on the envelope.
  • Never send cash; include payment in the form of personal check or money order payable to the United States Department of State.
