It is always a good idea to make sure your required paperwork is up to date before traveling outside of the US. United States citizens who intend to travel to Afghanistan will need an Afghanistan visa.

You will have to send a few documents with your Afghanistan visa application when completing it on the Internet. Additionally, you will be required to submit your original signed United States passport. Passports should have at least six months of remaining validity for this application.

As well, you’ll need to provide a passport-style photo and itinerary. This may include a full itinerary or your round-trip airline tickets.

You will also need to submit a personal letter that explains why you are traveling to Afghanistan, how long you plan to stay, where you want to visit, and more.

You can use expedited passport services to get a new passport or to renew your existing one before your trip to Afghanistan.
