Central African Republic Visa Requirements

The central African Republic is a land-locked African republic bordering several other states, each with different requirements for passports and visas. You will need a Central African Republic visa and a current passport if you are traveling to CAR from the United States. Your passport book must also have a complete page ready for the entry stamp, according to the country. Additionally, all foreign cash must be declared at the time of entrance.

Your passport and visa, as well as proof of yellow fever vaccine, must be presented at the time of entry. According to the US Department of State, there are no current HIV/AIDS entrance restrictions for foreign residents. For the most up-to-date entrance restrictions and requirements, this agency recommends contacting the CAR embassy in Washington, D.C. The embassy can be reached by phone at (202) 483-7800 or by fax at (202) 332-9893.

Visitors should also be aware of the current Travel Warning for the Central African Republic. As of September 15, 2014, the US Embassy in Bangui has only restricted operations and services, with no consular services available to US nationals.

Outside in Bangui, especially in the southwest, you’ll need the required permissions and documentation, even if you have a valid entry visa.

At a local U.S.P.S office, you can learn more about how to apply for or update your passport, including how to use expedited services.

Before visiting, you should call to see if an appointment is required. Check a neighboring town or city if you can’t find an acceptance facility where you live.

When applying for a passport in Wyoming, you have two options: regular passport services, which take 4 to 6 weeks, or expedited passport services, which can take 2 or 3 weeks.
