Is traveling to Japan on your travel wish list? For up to 90 days in Japan, you will not require a visa. A valid United States passport is required, even though you will not need a visa for your travel to Japan. Before you travel, make sure your passport is in good working order and up to date.

Things to keep in mind:

Check the validity of your passport – All visitors to Japan must have a passport that is valid for at least three months after their departure date. When leaving a country, you should leave about 6 months of validity on your passport.

Blank visa pages – When visiting Japan and many other countries, you must have at least two blank visa pages in your passport book. This will allow you to get any necessary stamps in your passport while you’re on the route.

Transit Visa –When traveling to another country on a connecting flight, a transit visa is sometimes required. When connecting flights, countries, where your flight makes a stopover, may require a transit visa.

NOTE: Even if a passenger’s passport has expired, some airlines may still allow them to board. When the traveler arrives in Japan, this will likely cause problems, and he or she may be denied entry. If your passport has expired, the US Embassy and Consulate cannot help you. To avoid this issue, inquire about the status of your passport.

If you choose to visit a regional Passport agency, make sure you are aware of the requirements and schedule an appointment with the national Passport scheduling service by calling 1-877-487-2778. You can do so at any time of day or night. Security is strictly enforced in most Wyoming passport offices. Metal detection devices are used by federal agencies.

If you live in Gillette, Wyoming, for example, you can apply for a passport at the Campbell County District Court or the US Post Office – Gillette. Before visiting, you should call to see if an appointment is required. Check a neighboring town or city if you can’t find an acceptance facility where you live.

When applying for a passport in Wyoming, you have two options: regular passport services, which take 4 to 6 weeks, or expedited passport services, which can take 2 or 3 weeks.
